Re.: the newsgroup, and some people in the class claiming that they haven't even ever heard of them. Can you please put a visible link/pointer to the CS newsgroups at your webpage for the class? For CS newsgroups, they can go to either http://news.cs.uiuc.edu/ or http://tsg.cs.uiuc.edu/services/newsgroups/ They can find there everything they will ever need to know Re.: how to use course (and other CS) newsgroups. [ Another important posting to the newsgroup. Can you please also post to the class URL that the newsgroup does exist, its name is class.cs.420, and if Make that class.cs420 (i.e., no 'dot' between 'cs' and '420'). Also, all class newsgroups are listed at the URL below (one just needs to click on 'Newsgroup listing' in the RHS menu). they aren't familiar with the CS newsgroups, they can learn more from http://news.cs.uiuc.edu/ Also, I was assuming you announced the existence of the newsgroup in class at the beginning of the term; anyhow, it clearly would not hurt to periodically remind them of it, as well as to put that info on your URL, possibly with a lonk (which is what M. Heath has done on his CS554 website.) Best,
